My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

URGENT: Little Figgy needs a new home or immediate FOSTER due to his "heart Mom's" rapidly declining health and inability to take care of him. There is no simpler way to say that this unforeseen situation is, and will be, sad for both Figgy, his mom, and her family. If you are a possible candidate to help Figgy based on our details below, we urge you to please email us immediately and provide your phone number so that we can reach out to you quickly. He is AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO MEET HIM.

Figgy is a wirehair terrier, chihuahua mix, about 25 lbs., 3-4 years old, fully vetted and micro-chipped. He primarily has wire hair and sheds very little. Figgy's ideal weight is 18-20 lbs. Figgy would thrive in a home as the only dog. However, he has, and does, live in a home with other small dogs. With that said, if other small dogs are in the home, you would need to be experienced when navigating during feeding time (feed separately). Figs is food driven so his home would need to have a clear understanding about food guarding if other dogs are in the home and proactively, and positively, have ways to work around the situation.

Figs is looking for a loving, calm and experienced home, where he can get endless cuddles, playtime, and lots of lap time! His favorite pastime is to cuddle with you endlessly. This adorable boy is incredibly smart, often very goofy, has an amazing personality, and loves to give, and get kisses! He has medium energy, is house-trained and not destructive in the house when left on his own.
We are looking for a home that is willing to continue working with Fig's apprehension during leash walks when he encounters bicycles and loud cars/trucks. His forever home would need to understand that Figs shines brightly with routine and may become slightly nervous with new situations/sudden environmental changes. We require a home with a fully fenced in yard (with no gaps from fence to the ground, at the corners or gate) since he is small (no invisible fence please). We also require a home with no young children under 14 years of age. This sweet boy is as cute as a button and truly loves people, he just needs love, routine and stability, in a home with little chaos and the understanding that he is still "working on it" wholeheartedly, that he is so willing to make the right choices. If you are looking for an amazing cuddle bug to hang out with you - Figgy could be your shining star!

If interested in meeting Figs and learning more about him, fostering him while we continue searching for his forever home, or are interested in adopting him, please email adoptions@smilingdogfarms.org and include your PHONE NUMBER with your inquiry.

WE ANSWER ALL EMAILS. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN AN EMAIL RESPONSE FROM US.

Please Note: We are always in need of foster homes for our dogs. If you're interested in making a difference in a dog's life, we would love to share with you what it means to be a foster parent.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We are dedicated to ensuring that our dogs go to a "forever" loving, nurturing home. As a result, our process is stringent, requiring an application, home visit, vet and reference checks and an adoption contract. We want the adoption to be a match made in heaven for both the new adoptive parents and the adopted dog.

Go meet their pets

We provide adoption opportunities for those living in the Northeast who are willing to do long distance adoptions. Many of our dogs live in Wharton, Texas but we have very safe, reliable transport to the Northeast.

Many of our dogs live in Wharton Texas, but we have very safe, reliable transport to the Northeast.
