My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Pecan: The Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold!

If you're looking for a big-hearted, lovable goofball with a lot of potential, look no further than Pecan! This handsome Akbash/Great Pyrenees mix is just over a year old, UTD on vaccines, neutered and ready to find his forever home. With his majestic size and sweet demeanor, Pecan is a true gentle giant in the making – but he’s got a few quirks to work through, and we know the perfect person can help him shine even brighter!

A Little About Pecan: Pecan is a smart, eager-to-please boy who has already shown he’s a quick learner! In just an hour with a trainer, he mastered sit, leave it, stay, leash control, and even heel! His intelligence and drive to learn will make training with him an enjoyable experience, especially with someone patient and consistent. He’s got the potential to be an amazing companion!

Pecan’s Personality: While Pecan is a sweetheart, he does have a little bit of resource guarding when it comes to food, water, and toys. This is something we’re working on, and he’ll need an adopter who is committed to helping him through this. With the right guidance, we know he’ll overcome it and become even more confident and secure in his new home.

Pecan is also a bit of a rough-and-tumble player! He loves his canine pals but doesn’t always understand his own strength. His playstyle can be a bit much for some dogs, so he’ll do best in a home with a confident dog who’s okay with a little rough housing.

Pecan’s Perfect Home: If you’re a patient, dog-savvy person with a love for big dogs and an enthusiasm for training, Pecan just might be the perfect fit for you! He’s currently being kenneled at Old Farm Kennels in Florence, MT, but he’s available for overnights, fosters, or walks to get to know him better before taking him home.

He’s ready to show you just how sweet and smart he is – all he needs is the right person to help him reach his full potential. Are you the one?

Pecan is waiting for you!

Additional adoption info

Great Pyrenees Rescue, Montana's mission is to help rehabilitate abused and displaced Great Pyrenees dogs, and find them the best forever home.

Adopting a friend
We work hard to find the best home for our dogs. We want this home to be their forever home. An adoption application is required with a vet reference. A home visit is also done. PERMANENT, SECURE FENCING IS REQUIRED Our adoption donation for most dogs is $275.00 for our dogs and this money is used to cover vet expense, spay/neuter charges, transport expense and caring for our dogs until they are adopted. A senior dog age 8 or older and our special needs dogs, we ask for $175.00 donation. This adoption donation is lower because you may need more health care for the seniors or special needs. We want them all to find a happy home and to be loved forever. FENCING FOR THIS BREED NEEDS TO BE AT LEAST 5 FOOT HIGH.
NOTE: The electric underground fencing is unacceptable for this breed.

More about this rescue
