My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Buffy and Jack – Bonded Best Friends

Buffy (12 years old, Shih Tzu mix) and Jack (8 years old, Jack Russell Terrier mix) have spent their entire lives side by side, sharing love, naps, and quiet companionship. Sadly, their world turned upside down when their beloved owner passed away, leaving these two sweet souls feeling lost without her. Buffy and Jack are as mellow and laid-back as can be. They love leisurely walks—strolling well on a leash—and then settling in for cozy naps together. These lifelong buddies have also lived peacefully with a cat, so a feline friend wouldn’t faze them one bit.
While they may carry a few extra pounds, a little exercise and healthy meals will have them feeling their best in no time. Above all, Buffy and Jack’s greatest wish is to stay together. They bring comfort to one another, and now they’re hoping to find a new family who will cherish them both. If you’re looking for an easygoing, loving pair to fill your home with warmth and companionship, Buffy and Jack are ready to meet you. They’ve lost so much but still have so much love to give.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
