Morty Beans the miraculous bean sprout! This little dude was found dragging his legs around in a neighborhood with some very large wounds on his back/hiney/legs. Springing into action we rushed this sweet boy to the vet where we realized he is feral, FeLV positive and had a completely shattered pelvis. We believe he may have gotten caught up in some moving engine parts.

As a rescue we were contemplating the best approach, and we decided to do surgery. We patched up Morty and saw how strong his will to live was! We decided to continue caring for him in a foster home and let him recoup both physically and hopefully warm up to people behaviorally. Morty is recovering well and went from very severe wounds to healing patches of skin and new hair. It’s a tricky situation to be healing from a shattered pelvis. He is learning to walk normally again, gaining strength daily, using his litter box and his legs are slowly regaining their normal shape. He was injured for anywhere from 1-2 weeks when we found him.

FeLV or Feline Leukemia is a communal illness that is spread very easily from cat to cat. Even though there are cases where cats can eventually become negative, we will only allow Morty to go live with another FeLV+ cat. Being that he is a young adolescent male that was born into a feral colony, it will take a committed, ambitious individual to work with his behavioral rehab. Morty is warming up to his foster human and even the dog. We believe he can have a great quality of life with the right person/family. Please consider opening up your home to this sweetheart.
