My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THE COFFEE WOOD CANINE TRAINING PROGRAM

Meet Pele' a beautiful and aloof 2 year old Husky Mix. This sweet girl had been spotted running loose for weeks. She evaded all attempts to be caught until Animal Control was able to trap her and get her safely to yheremember. She was a matted smelly mess in need of time and regular meals!

Pele' was a shutdown mess of fear when she arrived. It took weeks for her to trust anyone enough to get her out of her kennel and start breaking down her walls of fear.

Pele' isn't going to be for the faint of heart. She is a beautiful girl but she has trust issues and will need someone that is experienced with shy dogs and understands there is not set timeline for her to decompress it could take weeks....or months.

A companion in the home will benefit Pele' as she navigates a new life as a loved family memember.

We don't post her history to scare anyone off but we want to be transparent. Now all that said once this girl opens up and starts to trust she has a hilarious and goofy side. She loves to play and run. Loves belly rubs and is always curious to meet new dogs.

Pele' has been spayed, microchipped and Heartworm tested. We have updated all vaccines including rabies. She has been given a dewormer and started on flea/tick prevention.

More about this shelter

The Orange County Animal Shelter is responsible for providing humane care to unwanted, lost or abandoned animals
The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year.
Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder, Petsmart adoption events and now with the help of Adopt-A-Pet. Dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come from many other states. Would you like to join them? If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for the animals in our care.
Although we are about 1.5 hours away from the Washington, D.C. metro area, it is an easy drive. You can even make a day of it and stop off at country stores, Civil War battlefield sites and a huge mall complex in Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg. And after all, what is a few hours in drive time when you will be meeting your new best friend? If you need help getting here, call us for directions
