My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sister kittens Annie and Frannie came into the Guilford County Animal Shelter in August 2024. They are both blind (from birth), due to an infection their mother had. Annie had one malformed eye removed at GCAS.

Annie and Frannie are about 5 mo old now, and are very people-oriented and affectionate. Annie would be happy lying in a lap all day, and has no fear of anything. Frannie exercises a bit more caution (she will cry if she finds herself on an unfamiliar surface and doesn’t know where the ground is; Annie will just trust that she can take a leap and it will work out!) Frannie will also cry if she senses Annie is not around in the same room.

These are wonderful and inspiring kittens who are a pleasure to watch! Better than any Netflix! Annie enjoys walking around in cardboard boxes that she gets under, and then pushes from the inside, while Frannie follows and jumps on the box; they are both excellent little predators when chasing down rolling balls and even stuffed animals, and they have a cache of "stolen" toys and items like binder clips underneath the couch. Their senses of sound and touch are clearly heightened as a result of being blind. And yet they still occasionally crash into things, like the side of the couch, or fall off of furniture when they have been playing and forget how high up they are. They will bring a lot of love and joy to their new home. Both are spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, and use the litterbox impeccably. They need a home where they are strictly indoors--at no risk of escaping outdoors.

*All in our program are assumed to be mixed breed as none have had genetic testing. They are designated based on characteristics observed and noted.
