My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Artis (aka Arty/Swankwee Butt) Bio**

Meet Artis, affectionately known as Arty—or his favorite nickname, "Swankwee Butt"! Arty is a fantastic, well-rounded dog with a heart full of love and a big personality to match.

This smart boy is housebroken and knows an impressive array of commands, including "sit," "come on," "go in your room," and even "give me a kiss." He's highly responsive to redirection with his special nickname and takes great pride in being an attentive, alert companion.
Arty adores car rides and would love to be your road trip buddy. He's wonderful with kids but thrives best with older children due to some cautious behaviors. He's proven to be a great support dog, providing comfort and love to everyone around him.

Arty gets along well with other dogs and has a good track record with cats. If you're looking for a companion who’ll brighten every moment, Arty is your guy!

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
