My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Barney and Bambi: A Bonded Pair Searching for Their New Beginning

Barney and Bambi are two deeply loved dogs who have spent their lives bringing joy and comfort to their owner. Sadly, their owner is now seriously ill and unable to care for them, and Safe Haven has been entrusted with the important mission of finding these sweethearts a foster or forever home where they can live out their days together.

Barney is a gentle, wise senior at 17 years young. With his laid-back and affectionate personality, he’s happiest when snuggled up for a nap or quietly enjoying your company. He’s a daycare favorite, making friends easily with both humans and other dogs.

Bambi, the younger of the two at 10 ½, is full of life and love despite living with congestive heart failure. He’s doing great on his medication, showing no signs of discomfort. Bambi’s cheerful, playful nature and affectionate demeanor light up every room he enters. Like Barney, he’s a social butterfly, delighting in making new friends at daycare.

Together, Barney and Bambi are the perfect pair—inseparable, loyal, and endlessly charming. Whether they’re sharing a cozy bed, looking for their next treat, or mingling with their daycare buddies, their bond and resilience shine through. Though they’re understandably a bit confused by the recent changes in their lives, they’ve shown incredible adaptability and continue to spread love wherever they go.

Barney and Bambi are looking for a home where they can stay together, offering their new family unconditional love and endless cuddles. Could you be the one to give this amazing duo the second chance they deserve?

To foster or adopt Barney and Bambi, please reach out to Safe Haven today!

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
