My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Phoenix was brought in by his previous owner.

Why Phoenix might be the one for you:
Meet Phoenix, a sweet and goofy pup who is looking for his new best friend! Phoenix started out shy when he first came to the shelter, but in his foster home, he showed off his playful and cuddly personality. He appreciates a little time to build trust and take things at his own pace, but with some patience, he'll reward you with loyal companionship. Phoenix loves to explore outside and may even bring his leash to you to ask for a walk. He has spurts of energy and plays hard - but only for about 15-20 minutes and then he's ready for a big nap right next to his person. Phoenix also enjoys beach adventures and does well riding in the car. With each new experience - and with positive reinforcement - he is gaining more confidence and he will continue to thrive with gentleness and understanding. Phoenix has lived with doggie friends before and might love to go to a home with another social dog to keep him company. If you're ready to offer this sweet boy the loving companionship he deserves, grab a leash and collar and come by our San Diego Campus to meet him today!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
