My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Colbie is a handsome male black tabby with teal green eyes and Copper Penny is a beautiful female white calico with green eyes. They have been together in a foster home since they were approximately 2 weeks old. Both are lap cats, Colbie will always nap around his human friends and Copper Penny enjoys a sunny spot at times. They both love to play with wand toys, balls and each other. Both Colbie and Copper Penny run to greet their human friends and enjoy being petted. They are not siblings but both share the same birthdate of 9/3/2024. We consider them to be a bonded pair and would love to have them adopted together. If you are looking for an enjoyable and entertaining pair of kitties, they will not disappoint you! They are up to date on vaccinations and will be neutered/spayed after the holidays. You are welcome to meet them now and put a hold on them. They will be ready to go home after the holidays.

The animals in our care urgently need a permanent home where someone can provide individual loving care and attention. Please consider adopting your family pet from the Humane Society of McCormick County. We require that you sign an adoption agreement wherein you commit to take proper care of the pet. The adoption fee is $125 for dogs and $65 for cats. Every animal has been given all appropriate vaccinations. Every animal that is old enough has been spayed/neutered.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a private, non-profit, no-kill organization formed in September 2000. We are staffed entirely by volunteers and we operate the only shelter in the county. Our rural county is a very poor county in South Carolina.

McCormick County does not allocate any money for a county or city shelter and we do not have any veterinarians in our county.

We are all our county has for any help with animals.

We approach this problem through our "No more litters... fix your critters" low cost spay/neuter program. We altered a total of 272 dogs and cats in 2020! (95 McCormick County owned dogs and cats free of charge to those who qualified for it, 119 HSMC rescues, and 58 trap-neuter/spay-return-monitor.)
