My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For inquiries email nancy@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $500 Location: Williamsburg, VA Lexie, also known by her Elf name - Sprinkles, is new in rescue. She is an almost 6 year old Shih Tzu who weighs 13 pounds. She is new to rescue so we are just beginning to see her personality emerge. She was a breeder dog from Pennsylvania so she is learning how to be a pet. Lexie eats well and sleeps through the night. She was just spayed so she is taking it easy for a couple of weeks. She was shaved down when she came into rescue but we are sure that she will have a beautiful coat once her hair begins to grow longer. Lexie will need to learn how to walk on a leash. She shows some interest in toys. We havent determined if she is house trained yet but so far no accidents. Read about the the Shih Tzu breedhere Things to consider when applying to adopt Lexie: Requires leash training Friendly with both men and women Tolerates other dogs Requires professional grooming Not tested with kids Not tested with cats Appears to ride well in cars Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

After submission we check with the vet you referenced to obtain your pets medical history and the adopters compliance with recommendations

2.

Interview

Once you pass the vet. reference, we schedule an interview to find out more about you, the applicant, and the type of dog you want to adopt

3.

Home Check

If the phone interview is passed we then visit your home to see how one of our dogs reacts to the family, other pets and the environment.

4.

Approve Application

We have a committee to whom the applications are presented. They read over the entire packet and either approve or deny the app

5.

Meet the Pet

Once an adopter is approved they can call the foster parents and find out more about our dogs. If they match we set up a Meeting

6.

Sign Adoption Contract

More about this rescue

The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.

Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!

Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
