My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Elsbeth!  She is a beautiful gray and brown spotted tabby adorned with a white bib and four white paws.  Elsbeth loves her humans and will greet them at the door with affection and rubs.  She enjoys having her soft fur coat petted and you can pick her up. Elsbeth likes playing with toys especially one on a string.  She would be the purrfect companion or family cat with her friendly gentle disposition.  Elsbeth has a birthdate of 12/16/22, spayed and up to date on vaccinations.  Elsbeth is looking for an indoor home with toys, a sunny spot for a nap and humans to love.  If you are looking for a sweet playful kitty, Elsbeth will not disappoint you!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The animals in our care urgently need a permanent home where someone can provide individual loving care and attention. Please consider adopting your family pet from the Humane Society of McCormick County. We require that you sign an adoption agreement wherein you commit to take proper care of the pet. The adoption fee is $125 for dogs and $65 for cats. Every animal has been given all appropriate vaccinations. Every animal that is old enough has been spayed/neutered.

Go meet their pets

We hold adoption events at the Petco and PetSmart stores in Aiken on various Saturdays or you can visit our shelter by appointment. Please call 864-391-2349 or email us at HSMC2000@gmail.com to make an appointment to see our selection of loving and adoptable dogs and cats.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a private, non-profit, no-kill organization formed in September 2000. We are staffed entirely by volunteers and we operate the only shelter in the county. Our rural county is a very poor county in South Carolina.

McCormick County does not allocate any money for a county or city shelter and we do not have any veterinarians in our county.

We are all our county has for any help with animals.

We approach this problem through our "No more litters... fix your critters" low cost spay/neuter program. We altered a total of 272 dogs and cats in 2020! (95 McCormick County owned dogs and cats free of charge to those who qualified for it, 119 HSMC rescues, and 58 trap-neuter/spay-return-monitor.)
