My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pretty Ricky’s soft eyes reflect his shy and cautious nature. At first, he’s hesitant and nervous, especially in crowded spaces, but with patience and kindness, he begins to trust.

He walks slowly on his leash, staying close to his friends for comfort. Ricky leans in for gentle affection and takes treats softly. Toys and playtime are still new and a little overwhelming, but with time, he’s sure to find joy in them.

Pretty Ricky needs a calm, patient home to help him build confidence and feel safe. Could you be the one to show him how much love the world has to offer?

Eligible for rescue and adoption, come meet Pretty Ricky at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10 - 6pm

behavior notes:
Per Staff 12/16: After a volunteer had Pretty Ricky outside for a short run they brought him into the eval room to see if he’d be comfortable getting a holiday picture. His tail was a little tucked but he greeted me fairly confidently and sat for treats. He was a little nervous about the santa hat going over his head so the volunteer just held it above his head while he smiled cutely for a picture! He occasionally jumped up on the volunteer with very little force, just to ask for affection. He was almost interested in playing with a toy, but was more interested in both of our attention which we were happy to give. This boy is too pretty and sweet!

Per Staff 12/16: Pretty Ricky came out for activity time today. Pretty Ricky was very sweet outside, he jumped up on me with a wagging tail and took treats gently. He likes to stick by your side and is nervous of other people approaching him. We went for a walk and he was opening up more, untucking his tail, and approaching people. He was getting braver the more I took him out and just needed some time and treats.

12/15/24 volunteer notes: Pretty Ricky is such a sweet boy! He is a little bit nervous, but warmed up to me and was looking for pets after a few minutes. He had a great dog fence meet

Per Staff 12/15: Ricky was extremely nervous and fearful when going to his kennel from dog intake. he did not want anyone near him or around him and refused to walk, running to the corner of the hallway and climbing doors to try and exit.

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION 12/15:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Pretty Ricky was in the front of his kennel with sad soft eyes and stayed very still in the front. I tried to get some wags when I talked to him in a baby voice but he was still nervous. I reached in with my leash and he stayed seated. I secured him and left the door open to see if he would come out. People were beginning to surround his kennel and he got extremely nervous so I asked them to move and tapped on the floor. He gained some more confidence and is nervous to move around groups of people. He came out slowly and walked fearfully on a leash, moving away from people and cowering down.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally – fearful on leash– doesn't like to walk around lots of people

HANDLING:
In the room, Pretty Ricky was very nervous and had very wide scared eyes and a tucked tail. His body was tense as he sniffed around and would only move when the handler moved. He tried to keep his body close to me and would lean back on me. I gave him lots of time and gave slow pets occasionally and gave him some soft treats in the other intervals. With some time he faced me and took treats from me gently and would rest his body more on me, putting more of his weight down. I gave him time and space when he wanted it and other times let him come and cuddle up with me. He was very soft and gentle with me and allowed all handling with some sensitives of his back legs, he would pull them away from me slowly. He did not move from his spot and had no knowledge of sit but was an overall really good boy.
PLAY:
Scared when i ran around

TOYS:
Sacred of the squeaky noise –wide eyes and tense
