Melody came to us 2 yrs ago extremely shy. Her fostermom has worked diligently with her and we feel she is ready to look for her perfect home. She will likely regress in the transition and will need a patient home to work with her through this period.
Here are her "must-haves":
* Adult only home
* Herding breed experienced
* Patient and willing to work though transition period and continue additional training/socialization
* Ability to meet several times prior to adoption (local adopter preferred)
* Large yard
* Preferred social, stable dog as a companion. Melody doesn't interact much with the other dogs, but a stable companion will help in her transition and training.
Melody is a pretty little cattle dog mix. She was born around May 2021 and is about 30 lbs.
Melody is smart, playful, loyal and sweet once she is comfortable with someone.
Melody loves to play ball and is learning to play frisbee. She enjoys the pond at her foster home and will swim and chase a ball in the water. She will follow her people around the yard hoping someone will toss a ball or toy for her. She seems to enjoy the company of other dogs but has not engaged in a lot play with the dogs in her foster home and she would rather play with her ball.
Melody becomes attached to a favorite person and will happily follow her person around the house and yard most of the day. She likes to lay on the couch and rest her head on her person’s legs in the evening.
Melody can be shy/timid when meeting new people but has shown she can warm up with slow, patient introductions. It may take her a bit of time to adjust in a new home but she is worth the effort. She did not have a good start in life and was not accustomed to human contact and affection. She has progressed so much and enjoys her people and thrives on the attention/affection she receives from them.
Melody currently lives on 3 acres where she can run, play fetch, swim and explore. Her ideal home would be on fenced acreage or have a large enough yard to play fetch in. She is looking for a person who is herding dog experienced and who has the time, patience and willingness to give this shy girl a chance at a forever home.
Melody is housebroken in her foster home, crate trained and walks nicely on a leash. Children would likely overwhelm her so she requires an adult only home. She currently lives with dog savvy cats and is respectful with them. She lives with dogs of various sizes and ages and does well with them but does not enjoy dogs who continually pester her or get in her face to lick her. She has engaged well with young male dogs who don’t try to bully her.
Melody is a sweet, enjoyable dog who is a joy to foster. She is patiently waiting for her forever home.
Please email right away if you would like to learn more about this dog......and visit our website www.siarescuers.org to learn more about our rescue group. Our Mission Statement...
Sacramento Independent Animal Rescuers is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our purpose is to aid stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. In addition to animals rescued and adopted by our organization, SIAR is also dedicated to help other independent animal rescuers find their foster animals the loving homes they deserve. To date, thousands of dogs and cats have been rescued and placed into wonderful homes in the past few years. In order to provide these services, we work with the community shelters, rescue organizations, and individuals who have animals with special needs and place these animals in permanent homes after they reach a stage of wellness.
Our mission is to provide loving, permanent homes for animals that have been abused, abandoned, or lost, which otherwise would not be with us today. Many of our rescued animals, especially those that were rescued from the shelters initially had kennel cough, pneumonia, or giardia with the extreme cases having the parvo or distemper viruses. In addition, a high percentage of animals are malnourished and require special dietary demands. We rely on tax deductible cash donations as well as food and other pet supplies that will allow us to continue to save lives!
**** WE ARE IN GREAT NEED OF DONATIONS AS MANY OF THE ANIMALS WE RESCUE HAVE COSTLY MEDICAL PROBLEMS AND ARE CONSIDERED NON ADOPTABLE AT THE SHELTERS - WE HOPE TO GIVE THEM A SECOND CHANCE AT A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE****
All of our companion pets, have been neutered or spayed, given all current vaccinations, heartworm tested and microchipped. This also provides the community with healthier animals and aids in the reduction of the outspread of illness and future homeless offspring.
The adoption fee for animals being adopted by SIAR can range from $75-$100 (for kitties) and $150-$350 (for dogs) depending on the animal and associated costs. The adoption fee helps up recooperate the thousands of dollars spent yearly on rehabilitation and allows us to continue to rescue animals in need.
Please be sure to click on the animal you are interested in. The corresponding biography will let you know which rescuer you need to contact to learn more about that wonderful pet.
Disclaimer: Due to the limited time spent with the rescued animals, Sacramento Independent Animals Rescuers is not responsible for the health, behavior or temperament of the animals listed or adopted by this group.
