My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Laney, a 1 year old female medium mixed breed that came into the shelter as a an APO pickup on 12/13/24. Laney is a little timid when you first meet her but she warms up quickly and once she gets to know you she is the silliest girl! She loves belly rubs and has the cutest little smile! Laney knows sit and is open to learning new tricks as she is VERY food motivated. Her favorite treats right now are anything beef flavored! If you are looking for a medium energy girl, please come to ACCT between 10AM and 6PM to meet Laney! Laney is currently available for Foster, Adoption, and Rescue!

Staff noted on 12/17: Laney joined me outside for some time in the play yard and she was great! She rolled on her back for belly rubs, and sniffed around for a while. She exited and entered her kennel with no issues!

Staff noted 12/16: Laney is the cutest girl in the shelter right now (totally biased) She is super shy with new people and does not like being reached over at first but eventually she warms up to you! Once she is comfortable she allows full body handling and is actually really silly! (she has a weird snort when she takes treats) she likes to launch herself in my lap and give kisses. When I tell her to get down she does with no issues. She is VERY treat motivated but can be the slightest bit of snatchy sometimes. She does sit really pretty and poses for pics. She might be housebroken since I've had her in the office for chucks at a time with no accidents and she uses the bathroom as soon as she is outside.

Staff Noted 12/16: Another staff member and I took Laney out for some cute pics since the one she had was not the best. She was very timid and had a low head and tucked tail but she allowed a cute bell collar around her neck. However once the bells started making noises she got a little freaked out when staff went to remove it she let out a huge welp. I gave her a few minutes to settle and I gave her treats. Once she was relaxed I pulled the collar over her head, she gave me no issues and did not yelp it just took a little since she requires a slow approach. She has opened up a lot with me and allows all handling!

Staff noted 12/15: Laney's dog meet with an adopters dog didn't go great. They would be okay with one of the small dogs until it barked in their face, at which point they froze and then shook off and walked away. Then went to get attention from one of the adopters and was a bit snarly when the resident dog approached. May do better with calmer or more social dogs.

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray - APO pickup

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Captain Flannery was up on the kennel door with a wagging tail, ears up, and eyes wide. She did not get down when the door opened but stayed still to sniff the leash. She backed up when the handler tried to reach over her head to leash her, so the handler made a lasso and was able to leash her. She came out once secured.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled minimally and walked to the end of her row, but got scared and pancaked. Allowed herself to be picked up and carried without issue.

HANDLING:
Captain Flannery was nervous at first in the room with us. She kept her tail tucked but allowed us to give her some all over pets. After a few minutes she sniffed around and her tail came untacked. She approached me on her own with wide eyes, low wags, and eyes wide. She allowed all over handling without issue and leaned in hard for attention. She is such a sweetheart! CL took treats a little snatchy at first, but did know how to take them gently. She liked to sit in laps and get lots of love.

PLAY:
Engages in play, gets mouthy but is pretty gentle

TOYS:
Interest but no possession
