Meet Luke! Born around October 2023, this sweet and gentle pup weighs around 70 pounds and will likely gain another 5-10 as he reaches full adulthood.
Luke was rescued when he was found living on the streets and was taken to a local animal shelter. He was severely thin, malnourished, and matted. He has become healthy, happy, and handsome while being fostered by our volunteers.
Luke is a calm and friendly boy. He really wants to say hi and rest his big head on everyone he meets. He loves his people and strangers, and he goes right up to everyone to get lots of loving.
He loves attention and will stick to you like Velcro when you are up and around in the home. He is very easy to call back inside when in the backyard because of how much he loves people and the affection they give.
He has a fairly low amount of energy. He will play some but is very laid-back and relaxed for a dog his age, even for a Great Pyrenees.
Luke currently lives in a foster home with 6 other dogs and could do well in a home with or without other dogs. He has done well when being introduced to new dogs when there is no food around. Because he was without food for so long, he can be food aggressive at times, especially during meal time.
He loves to go outside for walks and loves to sit outside and watch the yard, but most of all he loves petting and attention from his humans.
He is house trained and is very good about waiting to go outside to go potty.
He is crate trained although will become restless when crated for extended periods of time.
He has been on a few car rides and has done well.
He walks on a leash fairly well, although the leash is still relatively new to him, so he does pull on the leash some, especially when strangers are around.
He barks occasionally at things that he does not recognize such as the trash truck and other oddities.
Luke is a kind gentle soul who is ready to find a forever home with a family that will continue to give him the tender loving care he craves.
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Adoption fees are $300 for dogs under 1 year old, $250 for dogs 1-7 years old, $200 for dogs over 7 years old. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
