My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Summers County Humane Society

Meet Squirtle. Unfortunately, he has been adopted and returned back to our rescue not once but twice. Initially, he was adopted as an 8 week old puppy. The first adopters had hoped the kids in the family would take care of him and when they did not, he was returned due to no fault of his own around 6 months old. When Squirtle was returned, he was a bit more fearful and jumpy. We do not think the children in the home were very nice to him. His foster family worked hard to socialize him with other dogs and learn that he did not need to be afraid of people. He was adopted out once again and was returned. Squirtle does show some manageable "guarding" behaviors - however we would not classify him as aggressive. He will thrive in a household with boundaries and kindness. We recommend Squirtle be adopted out to an experienced dog owner who has no problem setting boundaries with him. He responds well to a strong leader. He is happy, healthy and ready to find a family to love him FOREVER. Who can resist those eyes! Squirtle does excellent with other dogs and all people. He is a gentle soul that will surely win you over as soon as you meet!

Additional adoption info

ACWP's requires potential adopters to submit an application and veterinary references to be reviewed by our placement team. A phone interview will follow and if a suitable animal is available a home visit will be arranged.

ACWP requests a tax-deductible donation of $200 for most dog adoptions to help offset vetting expenses and to assist care for future animals.

Go meet their pets

Our county and ACWP, Inc. do not have an animal shelter and our pets are kept in foster homes. Without fosters homes, we have to turn dogs away and they will be killed. Email is the fastest way to reach us: acwp@acwp-wv.org
