My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Can be met by appointment only**

Mo has had a very rough time in his short three years. He came from a house in very poor condition with no contact to the outside world. When he first arrived into our care he was terrified of everything. Any attempts to show affection to him were met with growls and showing teeth. However with a lot of patience he has begun to warm up to some members of staff. Mo is a dog that will need a lot of time and care before he can be able to express the sweet dog that is in there. If you are willing to put that time in Mo could be the right dog for you!

What Mo Needs:
- Adult only home, ideally only 1 to 2 people
- Low foot traffic, minimal visitors!
- Patience and space!
- A home-body type person!

Notes for his awesome foster home:
- He’s potty trained
- Sleeps through the night
- Loves shopping or running errands from the comfort of his enclosed dog stroller
- Loves playing with anything that squeaks
- Walks well on leash
- Loves to cuddle and be by your side whenever possible
- Would do well with an adult that works from home

Recommendations from his foster home:
- Takes time to trust humans
- Barks/growls and may nip at strangers entering the home and should be separated from guests
- May bark when left alone so a single family home may be better than apartment or condo.

Additional adoption info

1. Visit our shelter and choose the animal that you would like to adopt.

Please be aware that the adoption process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the information we need to cover with you and the number of pets going home at the same time. We know this is a time commitment, but your new pet will appreciate it!

2. Fill out an adoption profile. At PMHS, we use a profile and interview process to ensure that each animal adopted will be matched with the most compatible new owner(s). Once your profile has been reviewed, our adoption counselors will discuss with you any medical or behavioral information relevant to the animal you chose and process your adoption application. Every dog or cat that is adopted from PMHS is up to date with required vaccinations and microchipped.

3. Pay fee.

3. Congratulations! You are now ready to go home with your new pet!

More about this shelter

After 35 years, our organization is now officially known as Pope Memorial Humane Society. Though we have a new name, logo, and facility, it is important to keep in mind that we are the same organization at our core. Our staff, volunteers, and operations remain the same, as does our unfailing commitment to saving the lives of animals in need. We will continue to serve Strafford County and the surrounding areas of New Hampshire and southern Maine with the same dedication. Though we are proud of the growth and impact we have made in the last 35 years as Cocheco Valley Humane Society, we look forward to this new chapter in our organization’s story.
