My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Your Loyal Shadow: A Dog Who’s Been Waiting Just for You

Somewhere out there, there’s a place I belong. A place where I don’t have to wonder if I’m staying forever.

I’m just two years old, but I’ve already learned that not every home is permanent. Not every hand that reaches out will stay. I’ve tried my best to be a good dog—to sit when I’m told, to listen, to love deeply. But I’m still waiting for the person who will see me for who I truly am and promise never to leave.

I’m an Australian Shepherd/German Shepherd mix, and my heart is just as big as my energy. I’m smart—really smart. I’ve worked with a trainer and know commands like “sit,” “stay,” “place,” and “kennel.” I love to play fetch, and if you give me a toy, I’ll cherish it like a treasure. I find joy in the simplest things: a ball thrown across the yard, the feel of the grass under my paws, the sound of my human’s laughter when I do something silly.

But here’s what I need most—a home that understands me. A home with adults or older kids who respect my space and let me be the independent, strong spirit I was born to be. I do well with other dogs, but only if they’re gentle souls who don’t challenge me. I’ve even lived with a cat before, and farm animals don’t bother me—I’ve met horses and sheep, and I know how to be calm around them.

But the most important thing? I need a fenced backyard. Not just because I have energy to burn, but because a yard is my sanctuary. My safe place. A place where I can stretch, breathe, and just be.

I’m waiting for the person who will see past my quirks and into my heart. Who will understand that I’m not just looking for a home—I’m looking for my person. Someone who will throw the ball a thousand times if that’s what makes me happy. Someone who will let me rest my head on their lap after a long day. Someone who won’t give up on me, no matter what.

If that someone is you, please come find me. I’ve been waiting.

More about this shelter

In August of 2015, the Idaho Falls community realized its dream of opening a second animal sheltering facility. Unlike other animal shelters, the Snake River Animal Shelter (SRAS) will provide an animal an unlimited length of stay, thus avoiding the need for euthanasia.

SRAS was built to take owner surrenders and transfer animals from other shelters throughout the Upper Snake River Valley, thus relieving overcrowding at the city operated animal shelters throughout East Idaho. We operate solely on donations, grants and sponsorships from businesses and individuals. This unique place offers adoption services and a place for the animals to socialize with each other and their future families. Education is a large part of the existence of this facility, educating the community about proper pet care and responsibilities. We also facilitate and partner in spay and neuter programs to alleviate the problem of too many unwanted domestic animals. Snake River Animal Shelter offers Elementary-age field trips, tours, and presentations and invites teens to participate in the care and feeding of the SRAS animals. Senior citizens are welcome guests and fulfill many volunteer positions that are essential for the care of our animals.
