My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Abel—a sweet, gentle soul who has been a beloved long-term resident at our shelter. He’s a staff and volunteer favorite, and we’re heartbroken to see him returned, especially around the holidays. Abel is ready to find his forever home, and we’re hoping that someone special will give him the love and stability he truly deserves.

Abel is a house hippo at heart, loving nothing more than lounging inside where it’s warm and cozy. He absolutely hates the cold, so a comfy spot indoors is his idea of paradise. He’s also a huge fan of treats—any kind of snack will do! Abel enjoys car rides and is a fantastic co-pilot, doing great in the car and loving the opportunity to go on adventures (even if it’s just to the store or for a short drive).

On walks, Abel can be a bit of a puller, but he’s got a lot of love to give, and once you’re home, he’s all about cuddles and comfort. Abel would thrive best in a single-pet home without small children. He prefers to be the center of attention, and a calm, predictable environment will help him feel most at ease.

Abel takes an inexpensive medication called Fluoxetine, which helps with his anxiety. It works wonders for him, and he’ll need to stay on it for the rest of his life. We are only looking for adopters who are comfortable continuing this medication routine to ensure he stays happy and healthy.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who just needs a little extra support to be his best self, Abel could be your perfect match. He’s ready to shower you with love and make your home his safe, cozy haven.

Able is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm negative.
