My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mittens is a gentle, sensitive soul who’s learning to trust the world at her own pace. She might be a little shy at first, but with patience, kindness, and a soft approach, this sweet girl blossoms into a loving and playful gal.

When Mittens first meets someone new, she may approach cautiously but once she realizes you’re a friend, her tail starts wagging, and she melts into you with soft affection. With a calm baby voice, you’ll soon have her giving kisses and trying to play!

Mittens is a big fan of quiet moments, loving touches, and kind words. Watching her open up and show her silly, sweet side is a heartwarming experience you won’t forget.

If you have a calm, understanding home and the patience to let Mittens build her confidence, you’ll be rewarded with a loyal and affectionate friend for life. Are you ready to give this shy sweetheart the love she deserves?

Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Mittens at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Behavior notes:
12/5/24 volunteer notes: spent some time with Mittens today. She came to the front of her kennel when I called her. She was a little hesitant to be leashed, but we’d just met so I gave her a little time to sniff me and my leash while giving her treats. She was very interested in sniffing me, which I found sweet. She warmed up pretty quickly and once she was leashed she hopped right out to get outside.
We did a few laps around the parking lot and she was easy to lead so I took her to the yard to see how she would do with a dropped leash. Mittens started out sniffing everything everywhere - she is curious girl. Once she had the lay of the land, she came to me and allowed pets and even gave me a few play bows as she got a little more comfortable. We ran around the run for a bit and even checked out a few toys, though she did not play with them. There is sweet fun girl behind her trepidation, she just needs to gain the confidence to let herself shine!

12/3/24 staff noted: Brought Mittens out for some activity time today. She was nervous in her kennel and kept approaching an then running away but after a few times of that she stayed at the front and allowed the handler to leash her. She was timid at first in the room, similar to yesterday and approached all handlers in the room with submissive body language and low fast wags. She allowed all over handling and warmed up with time, just needs a gentle approach.

12/1/24 volunteer notes: this poor girl was petrified. It took 3 of us to attempt to leash her. She is skittish and fearful but did warm up a little outside. She allowed me to throw the lead to lasso her overhead rather than move my hand over her head. Once returning she was unwilling to return and broke my heart. Another vol and I sat with her for awhile giving her pets before she eventually did hop in kennel. She was sweet and warming up. She would benefit from being an office foster.
