Razzle Dazzle ACCT-A-207845 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Razzle Dazzle must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14TH at 10AM. Should Razzle Dazzle’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Razzle Dazzle is the perfect name for this stunning girl with the dazzling smile! Razzle Dazzle is a sweet, playful, and gentle gal who enjoys playing tug-of-war and goes bonkers for toys, but also loves hanging out and getting belly rubs and butt scratches. She is looking for her forever family to share all of those activities with! Razzle arrived at the shelter on November 25th after being found as a stray, and she has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite. Razzle has been described as “the best girl", sweet, and cuddly. She also seems to be housetrained! She originally had some medical concerns, which have since resolved. Razzle has had good meets with other dogs while at the shelter, so if you have any pups at home, bring them along for a meet! Razzle is looking for a home with no children under the age of 12. Due to her length of stay, Razzle Dazzle is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter.
BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 12/9: I took Razzle Dazzle out today to get a dog meet for her. She was easy to leash and walked well through kennels and outside. We met Willow, an older dog, and Razzle was good with her. They sniffed each other and Razzle had a loose wagging tail. She definitely had more energy than the other dog, but wasn’t trying to play, although I think she would if the other dog wanted to. I think she was trying to match the energy of the calmer dog.
Per volunteer 12/8: The sweetest! Loved tug-of-war, no pulling, wiggly and cuddly, loved treats!
Per volunteer 12/7: Such a good girl on our walk, seems housebroken, gets the zoomies when you give her butt scratches.
Per volunteer 12/8: I came in today and walked Razzle Dazzle. She was the most perfect little low rider with great leash manners. She was affectionate, came when I called her, and LOVED tug of war. She took treats super gently and was overall one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met! I swear if I didn’t already have a dog at home who doesn’t like others, I would have walked out with her today.
Per volunteer 12/6: Sweet, scared, walks well.
Per volunteer 12/4: The best girl! Didn’t take treats or potty, had her out for 30 minutes. LOVES tennis balls and tugs. Loves belly rubs!
Per volunteer 12/1: So sweet, affectionate, likes treats. Allowed all handling, loves butt rubs, very good girl.
Per volunteer 11/30:
“TLDR: RD is the cutest (house trained!!) girl who loves toys and pets. She may want to be marked as a gold vs. green due to her love for toys and **occasional/situational** guarding. She met other dogs and was not interested, but met young kids and did great!! Details below.
“When we first approached RD she was outside with a staff member cuddling on his lap. We walked up and she barked, I think we spooked her. She then walked with us but shyly and with her tail between her legs. After offering a treat she warmed up. We put on her harness and collar with no issues, and picked her up to place her in the car with no issues. She was a saint in the car! Settled down immediately and was silent the whole 20 min ride there! We had brought two toys from the shelter but she was uninterested at that time. When we got inside the event, she was a bit skeptical but quickly warmed up with some treats, soliciting pets and eager to play tug of war with one of the rubber toys we brought. She was interested in other dogs but mostly the ones that had toys. She had neutral dog interactions—allowing them to sniff her with no issues but when approached face-to-face, RD barked or low growled. The other dogs took the warning and backed off. We tried again and had a similar reaction. No hard barking or lunging though, simply just a warning and then she was fine. She did start to guard her toy though, and become a bit obsessed with it. She would fixate on it if it wasn’t within her reach and pull/bark towards it until we gave it back. She was clearly using it as a pacifier for the new situation and when she was gnawing on it or tossing it around, she was totally calm and content. She allowed strangers (adults and young kids, 8 y/o to be exact) to come up to her and pet her/give her treats, even when she had the toy under her paws. This was a great sign as she felt secure laying there with her toy and soliciting pets (didn’t feel threatened that they’d take her toy). There was one incident in which I was playing with her and kicking the toy around and she bit my shoe and latched for about 5 seconds. I didn’t really react because it was just my shoe (not my foot) but it was a bit of an aggressive bite/bark. I think she thought I was trying to pull her toy away from her and/or mixed up my shoe with the toy. After that, we made sure to remove the toy before she interacted with anyone just to be safe. She allowed us to remove the toy when replaced with a treat, but would still fixate on it across the room. When we left, we brought the toy and let her gnaw it the whole way back to ACCT. We were worried she wouldn’t get out of the car without it, but she happily jumped out and left the toy behind. I think that she was in a new environment and needed the toy as a mechanism to remain calm, and that’s why she was so attached to it. Once back in the shelter, she was totally fine and went to her kennel with no issues, allowing us to take off her collar and harness. Overall, Razzle Dazzle was amazing and a fan favorite at the event. Everyone was having such a good time, watching her play with her toy and entertain herself!! She was wonderful!!! She’s an angel and the leash and appears to be house trained. And adorable :)”
Per volunteer 11/29: Interacted with 3 dogs through fence. Calm, playful, excited. Okayed with rope, ball, preferred playing with toys vs touch.
Per volunteer 11/29: RD was very easy for leashing! She walks well on leash without pulling. In the play yard she was super playful! She literally spent the entire time pushing around this big red egg toy. She kept herself completely occupied and didn’t pay much attention to me when she had her toy. No guarding of the toys which was great. She takes treats very gently and seems treat motivated. She seems to know sit and is very calm when she’s not pushing a toy around! No issues returning to kennel.
Per staff 11/29: Goes absolutely, adorably bonkers for toys (esp. large squeaky balls).
Per staff 11/29: Very sweet
11/28 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Razzle was laying down asleep on her bed. When the handler called her she remained asleep so the handler tapped her with the leash and she glanced up with wags and soft eyes. Remained in place while the handler easily leashed her and removed her from kennel.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled minimally
HANDLING:
In the room Razzle was well mannered and very calm! She walked around with a relaxed body, low wagging tail, soft eyes and explored before coming over to us. She was a bit timid with handling at first and would lower her body with over the head pets, but with a gentle approach she was very sweet and warmed up. She would solicit attention often and got very wiggly for baby talk. Very gentle and showed knowledge of sit and shake.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
Interest
Per staff 11/25: Shy and easily startled, walked low to the ground when staff went outside to get her. Flinched away when ACA attempted to leash her as she didn't see the leash coming and got startled. Did not display any reactivity such as growling/lunging, just fear.
Per staff 11/25: Finder initially stated the dog was trying to bite everybody, then said no.. she is just scared, I asked so does she lunged at people and she said well yea, then kept going back and forth stating "she is just scared".
MEDICAL:
On 12/1, Razzle Dazzle was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. She tested negative for pneumovirus.
On 11/29, she was medically cleared to be available for adoption.
Per staff 11/29: Pooped around 3pm in play yard during volunteer orientation. Large, soft, well-formed.
On 11/28, Razzle Dazzle received her intake exam. Her eyes and nose were clean, and her ears were slightly dirty. She had staining on her canine teeth and tartar buildup on her molars. She had some scabs on her chest which appeared to possibly be from an old, healing puncture wound. Overall, she appeared healthy.
Recheck radiographs were performed on 11/26.
Per staff 11/25: Walked Pt outside, urinated and had large, soft but formed BM. Slightly fearful, but sweet demeanor. Appears stable to stay in shelter overnight.
Per staff 11/25: Out of precaution we put a muzzle on her for rads. She was generally cooperative but did resist a little due to discomfort. She was very brave.
On 11/25, Razzle Dazzle was noted to have an enlarged abdomen and immediately received a vet exam. She had a distended abdomen with firm swelling on her left side. She allowed all handling for her exam. She defecated in the room - soft stool with some hard material - possible corn kernels. She received an abdominal ultrasound which revealed that her bladder, spleen, and kidneys were positioned lower in her abdomen. Radiographs revealed a “massively enlarged stomach with food material and bone fragments - some concern for gas bubbles on lateral at ventral abdominal wall, other abdominal structures pushed caudally.” This could be from food bloat or a mass, so she received fluids and Cerenia and the vet recommended rechecking her abdomen the following day.
