Yankee ACCT-A-208194 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space for incoming dogs, and length of stay. Yankee must have confirmed placement with an RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Saturday, December 28th at 10 A.M. Should Yankee's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Meet Yankee – a sweet, dog-friendly boy searching for a calm, loving home! Yankee was brought in as a stray on 12/1 by animal protection officers after being found in the basement of a home. Officers noted that Yankee was very scared and moved slowly on a leash. The caller who found him mentioned that he allows her to walk him, feed him, and even pick him up. Although Yankee is still nervous, he has been gradually coming out of his shell. He needs time to get to know you before feeling fully comfortable, so he’s looking for a patient and loving home that will go slow and give him the time he needs to decompress. Due to his length of stay, Yankee is now timestamped and seeking a loving home where he can truly blossom!
Yankee’s volunteer friends praise him as being incredibly dog-friendly—during a recent event, he was in a busy hotel lobby filled with people and dogs, and he handled it like a champ! He made friends easily with the other dogs, proving just how social and well-mannered he is. Still, Yankee can be a little anxious in new situations, he seeks comfort from people and enjoys being close to his handlers. He’ll sit by your side while you give him gentle pets. Yankee is a kind soul who needs a calm, understanding home where he can continue to build trust and feel safe. If you’re looking for a sweet, social dog Yankee might just be the perfect companion for you.

On 12/9 Yankee came down with an upper respiratory infection and was started on medication and will be done his course of medication on 12/22.
12/8/24 volunteer notes: Yankee met Santa and asked for a furever home! Yankee was the perfect pup at a recent adoption event and made friends with the MANY dogs and holiday shoppers who attended this event that was open to the public and in a rather small hotel lobby. The energy level was very high, with a ton of dogs and Yankee took it all in remaining calm and relaxed. His favorite part was greeting every dog with a thorough butt sniff. He is incredibly dog friendly! He is still a bit nervous of humans, especially when unknown hands came down on the top of his head, in which case he stepped back away. But overall, Yankee was incredibly tolerant during a pretty crazy event without much personal space
12/7/24 Volunteer noted: brought him to an event and raved about how dog friendly he was! They were stationed in a crowded hotel lobby to see Santa and he enjoyed being around other dogs
On 12/4, during an exam, Yankee was very nervous but responded well when approached slowly and given treats. He was compliant for the full exam and nail clipping. He was noted to have a healthy hair coat but also had multiple healing wounds and excoriations, including on the right hip, right caudal thigh, right shoulder, right pectoral area, left elbow, and left cheek. No ectoparasites were detected, and the wounds were healing appropriately with no signs of inflammation or infection. No treatment was deemed necessary. Overall, Yankee was bright, alert, and responsive.
12/3/24 volunteer notes: Yankee is an absolute sweetheart. I spent my time with him in the behavioral room and he is so sweet he just needs time to warm up. He seems to really warm up best with treats and it doesn’t matter what kind he is not a picky boy! During our time in there I decided to give Yankee a kong to see if he would be interested in one and he was! He was so good with it never showed any signs off growling, aggression etc. I never tried to grab it from him but I did hold it while he licked it at first and then I put it on the ground for him where he enjoyed it and even wanted me to toss it to him after he was done. He also loves squeaky toys! He allowed all handling with me but I also didn’t push it knowing that he is scared in the shelter. He seems to just need a slower approach to things which is understandable!
12/2/24 Per Staff: Yankee was standing at the front of the kennel with wide dilated eyes. He gave me some wags and began to whine at the front. He allowed me to easily place the leash over his head after sniffing it and exited easily. Pull moderately on the leash. In the room Yankee was very anxious and was whining a lot, drooling, and lip licking. He tried to seek out comfort from all handlers in the room and would stay close to us. He remained very anxious throughout our time together but would sit beside me and whine and allow me to pet him. He did not lean in or solicit much, but was tolerant to full body handling including his ears, paws, face, and sides. He took high value treats gently when offered and showed knowledge of sit, but at times when too stressed would reject them. He did display some arousal and chattering when sniffing another leash in the room. No interest in play but with toys he perked up at the squeaker but would not engage
On 12/2, during the initial intake exam, Yankee was noted to have minimal staining on his teeth, with pink and moist gums. No fleas were observed, but wounds were noted around his body, including his neck and side. He was described as quiet, alert, responsive, very sweet, and cooperative throughout the exam.
Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately.
Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.
Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
