My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lola is a sweet and playful dog who is especially wonderful with children. She shares her home with a 1-year-old, an 8-year-old, and a 12-year-old, and she’s proven to be incredibly tolerant and loving toward them. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch, being petted, or joining in on a game of chase, Lola adores spending time with her little humans. She has a special attachment to the youngest, following him everywhere with unwavering loyalty, though her affectionate licking sometimes prompts him to toddle away. Despite her active nature, Lola is remarkably gentle and has never knocked over the kids during playtime. Her calm demeanor and ability to “sit,” “lay down,” and “stay” make her an excellent companion for a family with children.

Lola is housebroken and thrives on a consistent routine, letting her family know when she needs a bathroom break by barking at the front door. She’s crate-trained and enjoys the flexibility of choosing between sleeping in her open crate in the living room or curling up with one of the kids at night. While she doesn’t play with toys often, squeakers are her favorite, and she’ll happily engage in games with them. Lola is calm and well-mannered for her age, including during car rides where she enjoys the breeze with her head out the window. This loving, attentive pup is ready to bring joy, energy, and companionship to her forever family.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
