My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fatboy & Rudy
You know, we have had these names all our lives, and we are now 14-years-old, and we`re kind of used to them. However, I do not feel as if I`m overweight! Littermates and lifelong best friends, we are a two-for-one package deal. We have lived with our owner for thirteen years, but she could no longer afford to keep us. When we arrived, we were in bad shape due to severe skin infections, hair loss, and demodex mange. We are shorthaired black cats, Rudy has one very long white whisker, and I don`t. Although we have both had TLC to help us gain weight and deal with our itchy skin, Rudy still has nearly naked patches on his legs and back. As for me, Fatboy, my coat has come in nicely, and I have filled out some. About three years ago, our owner adopted two younger cats, so we four had to share two litterboxes. This significant change in our lives resulted in our avoiding using the litterboxes. When we moved to the HSHC, we were very stressed and nervous and had difficulty getting used to the new place. Now we live in a Roaming Room, and having our own place feels marvelous. The litterbox is no longer misused. The interviewer lady (IL) has visited us several times, and today, we had our very best session. I quickly came over to greet her, and when she sat down, I stayed close to her so she could pet me. I repeatedly rubbed against her to encourage her to keep stroking me. Rudy remained on top of the climber as he had found a nice sunny spot to nap. He let the IL pet him and scratch his chin, and they played together with a rope. Although he never left the climber, he had lots of fun interacting with her. We have made such great strides in our comfort level and social skills. Now, all we need is a loving human to adopt us, give us plenty of time and space to get comfortable in our new home, and make sure our skin stays healthy. 1-27-25

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
