My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kassie: Your New Best Friend!

Kassie is a playful, curious, and sweet-tempered German Shorthaired Pointer who’s ready to bring energy and love to her forever home! She’s a young pup with a zest for life, always eager for a game of keep-away with her canine friends or a good chin scratch from her humans. Kassie is great with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful companion or an active human who works from home. She’s gentle and patient, making her a good fit for families with younger children, especially with a little training.

This smart pup is learning quickly! Kassie already knows cues like “sit,” “off,” “out,” and “potty,” and she’s even practicing playing catch. Her leash manners are surprisingly good for her age—she’s a natural walker without any pulling. Kassie loves toys, especially rope ones she can tug and unravel, and she’ll keep you entertained with her antics.

Kassie is making great strides with housetraining and growing her confidence around loud or unfamiliar noises. She'll blossom in a stable environment with patient, understanding adopters who can support her sensitive nature and who enjoy a Velcro dog. Kassie is content in her crate overnight and is steadily adjusting to being crated during the day. She enjoys being around her people and would love a home where she has plenty of company.

Kassie settled beautifully into her foster home, balancing her energetic outdoor play with a gentle and well-mannered demeanor indoors. She loves running, wrestling, and exploring, while also respecting house rules. With each passing day, Kassie grows more confident and adventurous, showing curiosity about cats and a fascination with horses—especially on TV!

Kassie’s ideal home is one that matches her active, fun-loving personality. Whether it’s long walks, games of fetch, or exploring the great outdoors, she’ll thrive with someone who enjoys keeping busy. With a little patience and a lot of love, Kassie will reward you with loyalty, laughter, and a lifetime of companionship.

Are you ready to welcome this lively and loving pup into your family? Kassie is waiting to meet you!

Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/

(Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6)

If you'd like to see what Kassie's been up to, check out her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.

Additional adoption info

Complete our adoption questionnaire on our website to start the adoption process. www.NorCalGSPrescue.org
Please provide as much information as you can about your family, other pets, activity level, and why you are wanting to adopt a rescue GSP. Because almost all of our dogs come to us with unknown pasts, we don't adopt to families with children under 6.

You will be called or emailed shortly after your application is received, usually within 3-5 days, to further discuss your application and what you are looking for in a GSP companion. We will also determine whether we currently have any GSPs that might be a fit for you..

If a GSP is identified as a potential match, we will have you contact the foster home to arrange a visit with the dog(s). The rescue dog will need to meet all members of the family, including other pets, at some point during the process.

If after meeting the dog, everyone agrees he/she is a good fit for you, a home visit is next. The home visit may be in-person or virtual. Home visits are required before any dog leaves our rescue program.

Once the home visit is completed and you are approved, we will ask you to complete an adoption agreement. If you do not agree to the stipulations in the agreement, we cannot adopt a dog to you. Please note that we reserve the right to deny anyone the ability to adopt any dog from our rescue program for any reason. All adoptions are at our sole discretion.

Adoption donation: Rates vary from free to $410 depending on the age of the dog. These monies help to defray some of the medical and other costs we incur while the dog is in our care. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm and fecal checked and microchipped. Occasionally, a dog requires special vet care while in our program. We will provide you with the dog's veterinary records so you will be fully informed of any known medical conditions. Please refer to each dog’s posting on our website for the latest rate information.

More about this rescue

NorCal GSP Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to placing unwanted and abandoned German Shorthaired Pointers in Northern California into new homes.

Our Mission Statement:
To bring about a time when every GSP in Northern California has a loving forever home

With your help, we accomplish this by providing veterinary care for each German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) rescue including spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm tests & preventative, intestinal parasite treatment and any other medical care needed. We also: educate potential owners about the breed and its special requirements to ensure an educated decision when selecting the breed as a pet; assist owners in solving problems with their GSP in order to keep those dogs in their current home and encourage owners to use their breeders as a resource of support and information; and educate animal control officers and shelter personnel on how to properly identify a GSP and of their particular personality and behavioral traits.

Join our effort to rescue German Shorthaired Pointers:

ADOPT and give a GSP the kind of care, attention and happy life he deserves.
FOSTER while we search for an adoptive family.
VOLUNTEER to help with mailings, events, transportation, fundraising and more.
DONATE to give our rescued GSPs the care that they need.
