My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, meet Red! Red is a big beautiful boy, who just happens to be a little scared. He hasn`t quite figured us out yet, but slowly making the leap to do so! Through that shyness, we see a very sweet kitten who just needs a loving family to bring out all the personality he has. Stop by to meet Red, you won`t regret it!

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
