My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

Date into Rescue: 10/7/2024
Reason for being in rescue: Hurricane Helene survivor
Foster location: Foster Home in Greensboro, NC
Special Needs? JD is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. JD arrived in rescue in pitiful physical condition. After 2 months, he has gained weight, built muscle strength, regrown hair, and is a happy boy. Our best guess is that JD is a standard poodle, However, he was found as a stray so we have no way to confirm this. Given this, we cannot guarantee that he is hypoallergenic.
Weight: 35 lbs
Height: 24 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Yes, JD requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller.

What kind of home would be best for me? JD is an active, happy boy who loves to play. He would thrive in a home with an adopter who enjoys an active lifestyle—whether you’re a single person, a couple, or a family. While JD enjoys company, he can be a bit unsure around boisterous young children, so he’d likely do best with kids aged eight and older, or calmer, dog-savvy children. JD is the ideal companion for someone who enjoys outdoor adventures. Whether it’s playing in the backyard, going for a jog, or hiking in the mountains, JD will be there, ready to keep up. He’s full of energy and loves to be included in family activities.

JD requires a home with a canine companion, as having another dog around will help him learn how to be the best pet he can be. His foster describes JD as a playful goofball who brings pure joy to everyone around him. He loves playing hide-and-seek behind trees and shrubs, and he’s the master of zoomies—extremely fast and full of energy! JD also LOVES toys, especially squeaky ones. Throw one out in the yard and enjoy watching him chase and pounce.

JD is a funny, affectionate dog who loves to play and is very social with other dogs. He’s also non-reactive with cats, which makes him a good fit for a multi-pet household.

What is my personality like? JD is a Hurrican Helene survivor who is now looking for his forever home after being rescued from a harrowing situation. He was abandoned in a crate that had filled with water, but thanks to the kindness of Good Samaritans, he was saved. Unfortunately, we have no information about JD's life before his rescue, but we do know he's ready to move forward with a fresh start.

JD had a few medical issues when he was rescued, but he’s well on his way to full recovery. His left ear is being treated with EKT, and he’s on his final round of treatment, so he’ll be ready to go once adopted. JD’s teeth aren’t in perfect condition, but his foster is working on improving his oral hygiene, and he’s making great progress. All in all, JD is on track to a clean bill of health.

JD is a smart dog and is quick to pick up new things. While he doesn’t pull on the leash when walking, his adopter will need to continue working on leash training and basic commands like sit, stay, down, and come. His foster describes him as “wicked smart,” so he’ll likely pick up new skills quickly with the right training and guidance.

JD is crate-trained and loves his crate. He happily sleeps inside at night, even when the door is left open. He’s clean in his crate and can go for long stretches without an accident. His adopter will need to continue enforcing a consistent potty schedule to help maintain his excellent potty habits.

If you’re looking for an active, affectionate dog who will be your constant companion, JD is the perfect match. He’s looking for someone who can keep up with his energy and adventures, but who also has the patience to help him continue learning and growing.

How do I act when I first meet new people? When meeting new people, JD is a bit shy at first, both with humans and other dogs. However, once he feels safe, he warms up quickly and will roll over on his back with a big grin, clearly saying, “Belly rubs, please!”

Other tips and tidbits: We estimate JD was born on or around 10/8/2020.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
