My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pope is looking for a special type of adopter, someone patient who doesn’t have visitors over often. Pope needs a home without young children, but has done well with the respectful teenagers he has met! We don’t know what this young man endured in his past, but it has left him very leery of strangers. It has taken several long months of trust building and patience, but Pope has come around to our staff, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing his smile light up. Pope is going to need that same level of commitment from an adopter. Meeting Pope will be a process, and it will involve more than one meet and greet. We will be utilizing a muzzle for his initial meet and greets, but don’t let this deter you- he has grown to trust our staff and wants to protect us!

Pope is a smart dog, he responds well to stern commands. He seems to get along well with other dogs, loves cats, and is OBSESSED with kittens! He loves to play with stuffies and is ready to simply be a dog and enjoy his time in a home. Pope will make an excellent protector and is looking for someone who “gets” him and isn’t afraid to take things slowly.More information? More about this shelter

Marion Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization incorporated in 1967 under ORC 1717. We strive to educate, assist and protect the animals of the Marion area. Since 1986 have operated a shelter to provide a humane environment for homeless animals. In 2011 several generous donors and grants made it possible for a shelter renovation and addition of a separate intake section. MAHS operates a open-admissions shelter with a guilt and fee free surrender policy, to encourage owners who can not properly care or maintain proper living conditions for their pets to do the best thing for the pet. MAHS also provides humane investigations and a spay/neuter voucher program for Marion county.
