Meet Pupperoo! He's a very sweet and very shy pup who's not very sure of people but is being so brave in the shelter so far. He's looking for someone who can take things slow with him and help him gain confidence!

Behavior Notes:
12/15/24 volunteer notes: Penelope and Pupperoo meet today! They did a great job reading behaviors and enjoyed their time together! This was a positive experience!!
Per Staff 12/14: I took Pupperoo out twice today because I instantly gained such a soft spot for him! He’s very fearful so not really into handling or pets right now, but will tolerate both. He likes treats so both times I had him out I just heavily rewarded him for looking at me in a curious manner, and practicing touch (booping my hand). He will take treats directly but I also threw them for him a lot so he knows he’s allowed to have space and his boundaries are respected while he’s still gaining confidence. He’s so cute and sweet. No issues getting in or out of the kennel with the help of treats! A volunteer also let me know he did great for his dog meet today and seemed more confident with another dog around.
Per staff 12/14: Pupperoo came out for activity time today. In kennel, Pupperoo was taking a nap and looked up with scared eyes. The handler crouched down and open ed the door and he gave some low wags and took some time to come up, sniffed the handler and then ran back to his bed. He froze and the handler was able to lasso'd him easily. Through the kennels, he had a tight low body. In the room he was very nervous with a tucked tail but came up to take some treats from the handler. when the handler tried to pet hm he tried to dart away and then froze, tucking his tail and giving whale eyes. He cowers away at some points and was tolerant when the handler approached him from the side.
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION 12/12:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Pupperoo was at the front of the kennel and looked up with hard eye contact and began to lip lick. When the handler reached in with the leash he sniffed it but continued to hard stare at the handler. He allowed for easy leashing and exited very slowly.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally, fearful on leash
Housebroken
HANDLING:
Once entering the room Pupperoo remained nervous. He walked very slowly around the room sniffing. After he sniffed a bit the handler offered him some treats which he took readily and gently. He was very timid and unsure of us though in the room and would shy away from handling- ducking away, cowering, giving hard eye contact, and lip licking. He continued to take treats gently from both of us but remained nervous with handling throughout our time together today. He allowed handling in small spurts on his head and back, but never leaned in or loosened up. He remained scared with too much touch or moving too fast around him and would shy away, cower, and flinch. He never tensed towards us but lacked trust in us and was nervous, needing a very slow and gentle approach.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
Interest but no possession, perked up at the toy but would not engage
