My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Myrtle was brought in by a community member on 11/30/2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Myrtle, a sensitive soul looking for a patient and understanding home. Myrtle is a bit fearful and prefers a calm environment where she can feel safe and secure. She's not a fan of rough handling, so a home with no kids under 10 and strongly recommended that any children be at least 12 years old. Myrtle needs to trust new people and situations at her own pace and will need safe spaces for times when she would rather not be handled. With time, love, and gentle care, Myrtle has the potential to blossom into a loyal and loving companion. Are you the steady hand she's been waiting for?

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered. This pet is now ready for her new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
