My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Lady is an 8 year old Great Pyrenees(DNA tested) that was adopted 4 years ago by a great supporter and friend to GRRSWF. Unfortuately, her owner has to change her housing situation due to medical issues. The good news is that Lady has been very well cared for and spoiled with love. Lady weighs 85lbs and is a young 8. She does not show signs of aging. She is happy, gentle and easy going. She would love a fenced yard and a dog friend. She has not been tested with cats.

Here are some notes from her owner-   There is something in her past before I got her, that triggers something when she sees someone on a bicycle, e-bike, motorcycle or loud car. She gets very vocal (barks and growls) and wants to chase after it. She also does NOT like to be medicated! She is a Great Pyr that wants to be in control, and fights sedation.  She doesn't like to get her nails trimmed with a dremel, but does OK with a clipper. Her back double dew claws need trimming about once/month.

She likes to bark, she's very strong so if leash walking will be her form of exercise, she'll need someone younger and strong. 99.9% of the time, she walks great on a leash.

She makes everyone smile. She's friendly, happy, and just seems to love life. She is easy to take care of in that she's never destroyed/chewed anything in the house, she's never eaten anything that wasn't given to her, she has never gone potty inside (she held her bladder for 24 hours during hurricane Ian!), she doesn't bark to go out, or to eat, she gets along with all the other dogs she's met, and will not usually pester you for attention unless she's trying to "tell you" something. She would make an awesome Pet Therapy dog (kids LOVE her!).

FIREWORKS- She get very nervous and after hearing them doesn't want to go outside after dark for about 2 weeks as she knows they usualy go off after dark. She is not very food motivated for training; but loves praise and positive reinforcement. She also loves to see me get excited or happy. Because she is a "guardian" dog, she tends to be very focused on her surroundings and can be hard to keep her attention.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are asked to complete and application form, GRRSWF will perform a vet check followed by a telephone interview with the adopter, we will then set up a home visit in order to make the best possible match between the dog and it's new home. We do not charge any application fees. Adoption donations are on a sliding scale according to the dog's age and medical needs.

Go meet their pets

All of our dogs are placed in loving foster homes who evaluate them while treating them as one of their own family, so we do not have a formal boarding facility. Once you have identified a dog of interest and have submitted an application, then you will be able to schedule a visit to the foster home and the first meeting with your new family member.
