My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nutmeg!

Hello, world! My name is Nutmeg, and I’m a 10-week-old female Hound/Terrier mix puppy. I’m on the hunt for my forever family to share my sweet and playful personality with!

A little about me: I came from a Texas shelter a few weeks ago, and experiencing snow for the first time was such a treat—I loved it! I’m currently living with my foster family, which includes two teenagers who adore me, and I even spent a few days with small children (ages 4-8). I did great with them! I also have a littermate I love to play and snuggle with, so I’d be thrilled to have a furry sibling in my forever home.

My Personality & Skills:

I’m crate-trained and love snuggling up under a cozy blanket for naps and bedtime. I settle in without much fuss!
Potty training is going well, and I also use pee pads when needed. With consistency and support, I’ll have it mastered in no time.
I know a few commands like “sit” and “no,” and I come running when you say “treat” or “potty!”
I’m a quick learner and love to please—my foster family is always amazed at how fast I catch on.
I’m a little timid at first, but once I warm up, I’m friendly and affectionate.

My Favorite Activities:
Belly rubs and deep couch snuggles are the way to my heart!
I love playing tug-of-war with my foster family or sibling.
Exploring new things and making friends with humans of all ages and other animals.

I’m still young, so I’d adapt well to any loving family—kids, pets, or just you and me! My foster family loves me to pieces, but they want me to find a family with even more time to help me grow into the amazing dog I’m meant to be.

Are you ready to make me part of your family? Let’s meet soon—I can’t wait to brighten your days with my puppy love!

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
