Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Hello! My name is Gordo (short hair) and this is my sister, Kate (long hair)!
We came into the shelter very scared and it took lots of time and positive interactions to learn that humans aren`t so scary. I am still very nervous in new environments but my sister Kate warms up much faster. I`ve gained a lot of confidence through watching her explore new spaces and interact with scary humans. We are good buddies and like to play and snuggle together. Given my lack of confidence and Kate`s higher confidence level, our GHS friends believe we will make the perfect match and are looking for a home together! We both like to snuggle with our human friends, but I am a true lap cat at heart, it just takes me time to warm up to you before I`ll be snuggling in your lap.
MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES… CHILDREN: No, we are looking for an adult-only home. OTHER CATS: Yes, with an easy-going and confident cat known to be social with other cats. DOGS: Potentially, with a smaller and very calm dog as I am quite nervous of them (foster mom says they`re just big kittens but I don`t think that`s right). FIRST-TIME CAT OWNERS: No, I`m looking for a home that has cared for cats before. SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME… ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium.

Our building is small but mighty. Our staff have introduced creative ways to continue our important work while maintaining appropriate social distancing in accordance with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) Public Health standards as a result of COVID-19.
At this time, we are unable to welcome more people into the building outside our staffing needs. We unfortunately cannot properly socially distance with a higher building occupancy. We thank you for your understanding and support.

More about this shelter
For 125 years, the Guelph Humane Society has been dedicated to protecting and caring for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities. Founded in 1893, the Guelph Humane Society provides care and shelter for approximately 3,000 homeless, stray, injured, orphaned, abandoned and abused animals each year, throughout Guelph and Wellington County.
Our programs are delivered by an enthusiastic team of staff with many years of experience in animal care and welfare. In addition to paid staff, we are lucky to have nearly 300 active volunteers, who provide thousands of hours of service each year and generously share their skills and ideas with the humane society.
The Guelph Humane Society has a strong working relationship with local, provincial, and national animal welfare organizations; local school boards; the City of Guelph; Township of Centre Wellington; Township of Guelph-Eramosa; local veterinarians; the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre at the University of Guelph; and Guelph Police Services and the Provincial Crown Attorney’s Office. We are an affiliate society of the Ontario SPCA, and proud member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS).
Our organization is guided by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers with a wide range of skills and business experience. The Board also convenes several ad hoc committees, which work to address specific issues. Day-to-day operations of the shelter are managed by the Executive Director and senior staff with the Board’s general guidance.
We are a registered charitable, non-profit organization that does not receive government funding. As such, we depend on your donations and private funding to support our important work. The Guelph Humane Society charitable registration number is 119236305RR0001.
