My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Viola is a smart, energetic, and sweet puppy. She is curious and does the cutest head tilt when she is asked a question or hears a new sound. She has the prettiest grey-brown eyes, large floppy ears, and huge white paws-she will be growing into all of these adorable features soon enough! Viola is mostly potty trained and has learned to sit for treats when she comes in. She is quiet except when she goes in her kennel- she will whine and howl to let you know she’d rather be hanging out with you! After a few minutes, she settles down and starts chewing on her favorite toys. Viola sleeps through the night. While she did great in her crate overnight, she really prefers to snuggle with her foster mom at bedtime and those puppy dog eyes are hard to resist!

Viola LOVES other dogs and would be so happy to have another dog to play with! Her current foster brother does not like to play, though he will snuggle with her, and she likes that too. She also likes to play tag with her current foster kitten sisters, although sometimes she needs reminders to not play roughly. She doesn’t realize how big she is! When the kittens let her know they’ve had enough, she respectfully backs up and watches them, her whole back end wagging. Viola loves chewing on her favorite toys (and anything else she can get her paws on!) and playing tug of war. She likes to chase balls but hasn’t mastered bringing them back yet. When she needs a break from playing, she loves snuggles!

Viola is friendly with all humans, dogs, and cats. She loves her smaller foster humans, although she is working on her manners to not knock them over when she’s excited to see them! She loves to greet people and get pets and see who will play with her! Viola can be timid when she is unsure of a place or situation. She had to be carried into the neighbor’s house to watch football, but once she sniffed around and saw her humans were still with her, she ran around like she owned the place in no time. On her first walk, she was terrified that we were leaving home and not going to come back! But once her foster brother showed her all the fun things to do on walks, like sniff, mark, and see new things, she confidently completed her walk and now loves going out to explore.

This sweet girl would love to find a home with a playmate and patient and snuggly humans.

Viola is from Texas.

Go meet their pets

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based rescue, meaning no animals are available at the Princeton, MN office for public viewing or adoption. All animals in our care reside in foster homes with few special exceptions for our adoption center animals, who are housed at our partnering facilities temporarily before adoption. To meet a Ruff Starter you may be interested in adopting, please submit an adoption application on our website.

More about this rescue

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit companion animal rescue that primarily serves communities throughout the state of Minnesota, as well as states in the south with severe pet overpopulation. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other critters. Most of our work is accomplished by a complex network of volunteers, fosters, and supporters, all of whom come together to save thousands of animals each year.

Since our inception, we’ve firmly believed that a home is usually a far more desirable environment than a shelter or a kennel for most companion animals in need of a forever family. As a result, we rely nearly exclusively on volunteers to provide foster homes for rescued pets until they find their adoptive homes. Please note: this means no animals are available at our facility for public viewing.

Each pet in our care is provided with routine vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, microchipped, given internal and external parasite preventatives, and tested for common bloodborne pathogens such as heartworm and feline leukemia. Advanced veterinary care is provided to any animal that requires such services before adoption.

If you are interested in fostering, adopting, or volunteering, please fill out an applicable application at our website: www.ruffstartrescue.org.
