My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sandy is a true lover boy! He’s very relaxed and will sleep almost anywhere all day, although he loves a good blanket to do his biscuit making or a tight corner to squeeze into. He gets his bursts of playful energy in which he loves to pounce through a tunnel and throw and chase toys either by himself or with you. He will put up with a lot before making his boundaries clear, in the sense of picking him up, holding him, kissing, and squeezing him. When he’s had enough, he’ll let you know with a slow and gentle nip, but never to hurt you. We think he might’ve been hurt in the past; if he thinks he did something wrong and you put a hand up near him, he’ll flinch. But he’s such a sweet soul. He loves to snuggle either in your arms, on your lap, or right next to you. For someone who has had a rough start to his life, he still truly has a lot of love to give.

He’s perfectly fine being left alone for most of the day, but he craves companionship and will try to always be near you when you’re home. He’s very treat-oriented. He purrs constantly when he’s happy and loves to do face rubs with you when he’s in an especially good mood! He still has a bit of food insecurity, likely from his time outdoors, and will devour any food put in front of him. If he’s hungry or begging for food, he will be vocal about it and will even try to get to the bag.

Sandy is shy and will hide initially. After some petting, a few treats, and a bit of time, he does however tend to warm up to them. He also gets a bit nervous if he hears noise that sounds like someone coming into the house but quickly gets over it once the noise subsides. Like most cats, he loves to look out the window and will sometimes climb up nearby furniture if he thinks it’ll get him a better view.

Sandy would be best with a patient, experienced owner. He was not accepted by the cats in the colony he was rescued from, so he may be best as a single cat, or maybe with one other low-key cat.

Sandy is FIV and FeLV negative, neutered, and up-to-date on shots. Email adopt@kittykind.org to apply!

Additional adoption info

All cats and kittens are vaccinated and tested for FELV (feline leukemia) and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), and if old enough, are neutered or spayed.
We will ask you some questions about your home and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Adopting a pet is a long-term commitment. We ask you to sign the KittyKind Adoption Agreement.
We will always take a cat back FOR ANY REASON. We will also work with you to place her in another good home if (after a period of adjustment) the adoption doesn't work out.
We do ask for a $125 adoption fee to help cover some of our food and veterinary expenses. For certain purebred cats (Siamese, Persian, Maine Coon, etc.), we request a $150 - $300 adoption fee.

More about this rescue

KittyKind is a New York City not-for-profit, no-kill, all-volunteer cat rescue and adoption group. All of us at KittyKind have opened our hearts and homes — and emptied our pockets — to save thousands of cats from neglect or abuse. Every cat we rescue is given food, shelter, medical care, a safe place to lay his or her head and most importantly of all, a reason to purr. We do not believe in rescuing a cat or kitten only to euthanize it if it has a broken leg or needs extended nursing care. We never give up if there is a chance of saving them. We take responsibility for each and every life we save and if a cat or kitten is unadoptable, they have a home with us for life.
We believe that animals are not property to be discarded, disposed of, or killed just for the crime of being homeless or unwanted. We believe that people should be friends, caretakers and protectors of animals. We believe that we must take responsibility for the life of every animal we rescue who through no fault of their own, is abandoned, sick, disabled, old or unable to care for themselves. We are dedicated to relieving their suffering, providing food, shelter, medical care and comfort until we can place them in a safe and loving home.
