Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Trooper!
Get ready to open your heart (and maybe clear some space on your couch) for Trooper, a truly special 3 year old mixed breed dog. At 40 pounds he is considered a medium-sized bundle of love who is just waiting for the perfect forever home to shower with affection. He is 100% a Velcro dog. He loves attention and will beg for it.
Trooper has had a rough life. He was picked up in southern Indiana where he and 4 other dogs were tied to the side of a house. Upon further examination it was found that Trooper was heartworm positive. He finished his shot series at the end of January and has had some minor complications along the way, so he had stayed in his foster home for a little bit longer. As of now he is happy and healthy and ready to join his new forever family.
Trooper's favorite things include snuggling up on the couch at night (expert-level blanket hogger, fair warning!), and following his favorite people from room to room (nothing is off limits, he considers personal space a myth). He has a sweet and gentle nature and gets along well with men, women, and kids of all ages. He gets along with cats but can be reactive with other dogs. The perfect home for him would be for him to be the only dog, as he doesn't like to share his humans. Or a home where the other dog is more submissive. He does enjoy playing with other dogs, seems to be better with females, but he can get testy if play time gets too rough.
He is house trained and crate trained. We don't use the crate with him anymore. He doesn't need it. He can be left alone at home free roaming and your stuff will still be intact. He enjoys short walks (prefers sniffing every single blade of grass), playing with soft toys (especially if they squeak incessantly), just being near you (preferably close enough to monitor your snack consumption). While Trooper isn't a high-energy dog, he still appreciates a little daily exercise to keep happy and healthy.
If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion who will fill your days with warmth and cuddles, then Trooper might just be the perfect match for you! Come meet him at one of our events or feel free to call his foster mom Kim at 630-639-7599 to see if you might be the right fit for him. The adoption fee is $275.
