Dexter is a 10+ year dachshund. He was found as a stray and nobody came to claim him. He is good with other dogs and people. He is good with kids, but because he is a small dog he shouldn't go to a home with kids under 4 years old. He is not housetrained, so he has been wearing a belly band while in the house. Dexter doesn't go potty very often during the day. When he is taken outside, he will go back and forth between the yard and the door to come in. He will do this behavior multiple times and sometimes he will finally go potty, but not always, and of course the cold weather doesn't help. He might have been trained to go on potty pads in his past life, but we are working on changing this behavior. I don't think he was neglected in his past, because he is definitely a little chunky for a dachshund. He just had a dental and had many teeth removed and he also a fatty polyp removed from his chest. He is a sweet little guy and just needs a place to live out his senior years. He doesn't do stairs well, so a home with little to no stairs would be best. At night he sleeps with his belly band on and usually snuggled up against one of the other dogs in the home. Dexter is neutered and up to date on shots. If you would like to meet him, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is only $150.
