My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Oreo! 🖤🤍
Who doesn’t love an Oreo? 🍪 My name is Oreo, and I’m an 11-month-old, 43-pound mix from Texas. Right now, I’m undergoing heartworm treatment, but I’ll be ready to find my forever home by January!

A Little About Me:
I’m a curious and lovable pup who enjoys watching the world go by—whether it’s people or dogs passing by my foster’s windows. I’m very food-motivated and eager to please, so training me is both fun and rewarding! While I might need a moment to figure out what you’re asking, I’m always determined to get it right.

My Personality:
I’m a bit shy when meeting new people, but once I warm up, I’ll shower you with affection! Physical touch is my love language, and I adore snuggles. I’m also a loyal companion who loves following my foster mom around to see what she’s up to.

My Foster Life:
Other Dogs: I currently live with another dog, and we get along well. Before starting my heartworm treatment, we loved playing chase and tag at the dog park!

Potty & Crate Training: I’m potty trained and sleep soundly in my crate at night without any accidents.
Leash Manners: I’m still learning not to pull on the leash, but I’m improving every day.

Barking: I rarely bark, but if I do, it’s just my way of asking for a little attention.

Unknowns:
I haven’t been introduced to children or cats yet, so I’m not sure how I’d feel about them. With proper introductions, I’m sure I could adjust.

Could I Be Your Oreo?
If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal, and cuddly companion who will be your shadow and your snuggle buddy, I might just be the perfect pup for you! Let’s make 2025 the year I find my forever home. 💕

Could I be your forever Oreo? 🐾

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
