Meet Shadow McShade – a reserved, cautious boy in need of a patient and understanding home.
He likes to go at his own pace, taking time sniffing out the situation before he makes a move, but after some gentle encouragement, he begins to open up. With a little baby talk, he relaxed enough to show some low wags and tolerate head pets, though he stayed alert and vigilant of his surroundings.
He doesn’t show much interest in play or toys yet, but he’s still adjusting to his new living arrangements. Shadow McShade is a sensitive soul who needs time, patience, and a calm environment to build trust.
Eligible for rescue and adoption. Meet Shadow McShade at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Behavior notes:
12/10/24 staff notes: Shadow ran to the backside of kennel when the handler approached. They lowered the divider and went to the backside. He watched the handler with hard eyes, a mid level stiff tail, paw lifting and raised hackles. He sniffed the leash and slowly came forward with a tense body. He allowed for the handler to leash him with out issue and came out. In the room he remained very nervous but gave some low wags when approaching him and did well with a lowered body. He needed ample time to warm up in the room to new people and seems a bit unsure of his new environment.
12/9/24 staff behavior evaluation:
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Shadow McShade was standing near the divider with wide tense eyes, a tense body and a tucked tail. Shadow backed up near the back corner and had a high stiff tail, forward body, and hackles raised, hard staring and lip licking at the handler. The handler reached in with the leash for him to sniff but he continued to lip lick and hard stare. He was easily lasso’d but did not move. He came out with a little bit of leash pressure after the handler used the door as a way to tighten the leash for more security.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally– very vigilant
HANDLING:
In the room, Shadow McShade came in with a very tense body and arched his back and hard stared at the handler. The handler asked Shadow to shake and sit but he refused and continued to sniff the handler's leg and feet. He had very tense wide eyes and a stiff body. He refused all treats and sat near the handler's feet. He allowed some pets and was tolerant but had his head away. He opened up with some baby talk and gave some low wags. He allowed some head pets and was neutral, pushing his head back and closing his eyes slightly. He remained unsure and had very wide eyes. He remained very tolerant but extremely vigilant of the door and the window as people passed by.
PLAY:
No interest
TOYS:
Shows interest but no possession – some tail wags but then got tense
12/9/24 staff noted: Growling and tense in kennel
