Here's what the humans have to say about me:
It seems that hurricane season and kitten season hit our rescue at the same time this year. On August 8, 2024, Hurricane Debby brought us four tiny orphans: Cane, Puddle, Splash, and Breeze. They were only a few days old, so after a quick bath, they went straight to one of our incubators. We are guessing their birthday to be August 3. All four kittens had approved adoption contracts well before they were old enough to leave. Puddle, Splash, and Breeze left with their families in late October. Cane was adopted with Stormy (a slightly older single orphan), and left for their new home mid November. Unfortunately, their adoption was cancelled when the adopter had a serious medical event. And that is how Stormy and Cane are up for adoption again.
Stormy’s story:
On September 27, I got a frantic call saying there was a kitten in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store. She was running under cars and climbing up in car engines to escape the kind people trying to catch her. Since it was a short drive, I went over to help. Although the kitten was terrified, she quickly calmed down once we caught her. I say “we” caught her, but it was actually a brave middle school girl who crawled under a car to get her. Since it was shortly after Hurricane Helene came through, the girl asked if we could name the kitten Stormy. So, Stormy it is. At the time we caught her, Stormy was about 12 weeks old.
We don’t know Stormy’s backstory, but we imagine she had positive human contact somewhere along her journey because she is calm, friendly, and affectionate. But it was also apparent she had never been inside a home because she didn’t know how to play with toys, and it took her a couple of days in our foster room before she figured out the litter box. Now, when she isn’t napping, it’s constant play and 100% litter box success.
Although Stormy had access to the entire house, she still enjoyed the company of our younger kittens in the foster room and was very gentle with them. She played with all the kittens, but definitely bonded with Cane, which is why we want to keep them together.
One of the advantages of adopting slightly older kittens is their personalities are more evident. Usually in a bonded pair, one is enthusiastic (Cane) and the other more sedate (Stormy), which is the case with these two. Both play hard and the two chase each other and rough house, but they also share toys and food, and love snuggling with us. If I sit down, Cane is immediately in my lap. If my husband lays on the couch, Stormy curls up in his arms. You can understand why they deserve a life together with people who will appreciate their quirky differences.
Both kittens are FIV/FeLV negative, vaccinated, and Stormy is now spayed and chipped. Cane will be neutered in the next few weeks. The nominal adoption fee covers thorough medical exams, deworming, vaccines, blood tests, and spay/neuter.
