Fred is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match!
Fred is a handsome senior who comes to us from a Kentucky shelter partner. Fred was so sad to have ended up in such a place after having been in a home all of his life, but his owner could no longer care for him. Fred landed in a wonderful foster home with another dog, and he is truly enjoying his life! Except for the part where we took him to swim class, he did not like that too much! You see, Fred came to us rather overweight and so we are working to help him shed some pounds! Splash Dog is a great low impact workout for dogs, but dear Fred was not super into it, but was such a trouper! Luckily, Fred loves walks and his foster mom loves walking Fred because he does not pull at all, is not reactive, and likes to keep moving vs stopping to smell every little thing. We know he will be slim and trim in no time.
In addition to being a great walking buddy, Fred is housebroken, and has been left to free roam for a few hours and done just fine! He loves to snooze on the sofa. Fred's previous owner reported that he was good with kids and dogs and we have had nothing but positive experiences with him and dogs and kids. His foster mom's 15 month old niece and Fred got along very well, and Fred lives with her Golden Retriever. Fred is more of a co-exister with other dogs, which is just fine!
Fred's foster mom writes, "Fred is a dream, very mellow, transitioned to my home, dog and routine easily. He loves people, kids, dogs, walks and meal time, not a huge fan of toys and playtime, but that may change in time. Has free roam and has shown no destructive behaviors. He is a very sweet, snuggly dog who likes to sleep on pillows or burrow under the blanket. He is perfection"
Fred's adoption fee is $150. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
