Meet the Pet
***Sparky is scheduled to be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the Dec 14-15 weekend. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com. Questions about Sparky and/or our adoption event should be sent to socorescue8@gmail.com; please do not call the shelter's number.***
One of our staff members found Sparky shortly after this area was hit by Helene. Most likely he had become scared by the storm and wandered away from his home, as did so many other dogs in our area. And as is also the case most of the time, we were not able to locate his owner. He was very thin, seemed confused and uncertain, but he was very receptive to our offer of help. It took a few weeks, but Sparky regained his weight and made a full recovery from his days of being a stray. He also proved to us that he was very friendly to both other dogs and people.
Sparky has become accustomed to sleeping in a crate and has displayed some house training experience. He will walk on a leash but, at times, will just stand still when leashed. Sparky's adopter should be prepared to offer him further training in both areas.
Since arriving to our rescue, Sparky has now received a full regiment of his annual vaccinations, been de-wormed and treated against parasites. We've also started him on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He's scheduled to be neutered and tested for heartworms on Dec 11 and will update his HW status then.
