Lucchese is an affectionate and playful boy looking for a loving home where he can be fostered during his medical treatment and eventually adopted when he’s ready. He’s currently thriving in a foster home, and we’re seeking a special adopter to give this sweet boy the care and attention he deserves. If you’re interested in adopting Lucchese or have questions, please reach out to us at foster@operationkindness.org.
Reason for Foster: Megaesophagus
Foster Time Frame: TBD (Long Term Foster)
Foster Care Plan: Lucchese is suspected to have Megaesophagus, a condition that causes the esophagus to dilate and lose motility, making it difficult for food and liquid to pass into the stomach. Lucchese eats 3-4 small meals daily from a raised bowl. Sometimes the meals are more frequent depending on how he is doing at the time. Only a spoonful of food is served at a time to prevent aspiration. After each meal, Lucchese is held upright for 15 minutes, during which he usually drifts off to sleep. He quickly learns the routine and looks forward to this post-meal cuddle time. Lucchese requires two medications: 1.Sildenafil (4mg/ml) – Administer 0.25 cc orally twice daily, indefinitely. 2.Cisapride liquid – Administer 2.5 mg (1 ml) orally every 8 hours, indefinitely. This medication should ideally be given 30 minutes before feeding. Lucchese would thrive with a caregiver who can provide smaller, more frequent meals and is home often to accommodate his routine. A thorough medical consultation will be provided at your pickup appointment so you ready to confidently take care of this sweet little guy.
Foster to Adopt Program: Lucchese is available through our Foster to Adopt program, which allows pets awaiting or undergoing medical treatment to be placed with prospective adopters before they are made available for adoption.
