Here's what the humans have to say about me:
In a city of a thousand stories… one cat’s journey stands above the rest.
Abandoned, hardened by the streets, Mugs was a survivor — a lone warrior with trust locked away behind steel walls. When he first arrived at the shelter, no one could get close. He was a mystery. A legend in the making.
But every legend has a turning point.
With time, patience, and a heart that refused to stay closed, Mugs chose a different path — a path toward trust, kindness, and connection. Today, he stands as one of the shelter’s greatest success stories: a gentle, humble hero who welcomes every pet and head scratch with quiet pride.
He won’t demand attention. He won’t climb into your lap. Because real heroes don’t seek the spotlight — they become it.
Now, Mugs is ready to leave behind the life of a lone wanderer and write the greatest chapter of all: the one where he finds his forever home.
Mugs: The story of survival, transformation, and the quiet strength of second chances. Coming soon — starring you.More information? Call Marion Area Humane Society at 740-389-6548 or email at manager@mahspets.org

More about this shelter
Marion Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization incorporated in 1967 under ORC 1717. We strive to educate, assist and protect the animals of the Marion area. Since 1986 have operated a shelter to provide a humane environment for homeless animals. In 2011 several generous donors and grants made it possible for a shelter renovation and addition of a separate intake section. MAHS operates a open-admissions shelter with a guilt and fee free surrender policy, to encourage owners who can not properly care or maintain proper living conditions for their pets to do the best thing for the pet. MAHS also provides humane investigations and a spay/neuter voucher program for Marion county.
