My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dakota - the loverboy!

Dakota is about 2.5 months old and is the sweetest little rolly-polly puppy. You better watch out, because he is bound to steal your heart with his big brown eyes and darling personality. He is looking for a large dog-savvy active family who has the time to dedicate to helping him grow up to be the best boy he can be. Dakota currently weighs around 8lbs and will likely be at least 50-60lbs when fully grown.

Dakota came to us from a local shelter after he was found abandoned with his 3 siblings. The puppies were at the shelter for a few weeks where one of the 4 siblings was adopted. One of our foster homes then stepped up to foster the remaining trio and they have been doing great in foster care ever since. They are looking for individual homes so they can get the one-on-one training and socialization they need the thrive.

Dakota is the sweetheart of the three puppies and is definitely a little charmer. He is quick to win people over with his affectionate and cuddly nature. When he isn't adding new people to his fan base, his favorite activities include wrestling with his sisters and finding new things to chew on. He is doing great learning his basic manners, but has lots to learn and needs a family who can commit the time to continue his training. He would be a great candidate for puppy classes.

Dakota has done well meeting new dogs and we think he would do best in a home with a playful dog who can mentor him and so he always has a buddy to romp around with. Dakota hasn't met cats before but is young enough that he could probably do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Dakota could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years or older.

Dakota is still working on his house and crate training but has been doing well learning. His new family will need to be patient with him and consistent with letting him out to help him learn. Dakota has never been left alone, so he needs a family who has a schedule that will allow him to slowly get comfortable with being left alone.

Dakota is such an awesome little dude and can't wait to meet his fur-ever family. if you think that might be you, submit an adoption application today!

Dakota's adoption fee is $350.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
