My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gus was rescued on a beautiful late August evening in front of his rescuers stoop in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. He confidently came right up to them, was extremely vocal and let them know he wanted to come inside! After a few months of churus, good food, play and lots of love, this sweet boy is ready for his forever home. Gus has kitten energy but is a couple of years old. He is very athletic and extremely food motivated. He’s not yet a lap cat but wants to be wherever you are and will sit by your side or feet as long as you let him. Gus would love to find someone who is experienced with cats,  has time to engage Gus in play and perhaps has a cat who is very outgoing and loves to play.

This cat can be adopted with a friend or as a single cat.

This is a courtesy listing, meaning the cat(s) are being offered for adoption by a rescuer, rescue group, or individual unaffiliated with the Brooklyn Cat Cafe or Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. As BBAWC has not evaluated the animal(s) we therefore cannot provide information on health or temperament. After we receive an application, we will connect you with the current caretaker of this cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
