Meet Fabio. Fabio is a purebred little male available for adoption. Fabio has just a gorgeous coat (hence the name) and is the sweetest and shyest of the litter. He also LOVES to talk! He will greet you with a wooo-wooo during the day with his tail wagging, eager to learn. He's incredibly smart but also incredibly sensitive.
The first question people will ask me is how did a purebred pup end up in a rescue? Well, here is the background story.
I grew up showing dogs. My family traveled all over the nation and we had the top 3rd International Champion in our small pack. We were NOT backyard breeders, but professional and devoted to keeping the breed pure and healthy. Flash forward several decades and I found myself in love with the Border Collie (one in particular). I showed him all over the nation and became good friends with the Border Collie people and one in particular who I have remained friends with for over 20 years now. Although I quit showing when I started our rescue, I have always admired my friend for her commitment and integrity and oftentimes looked to her for advice with our rescues. A few weeks ago, she called and asked for help. Her mother was in the hospital having cluster strokes and having gone through this myself with my own mother, I knew the coming home implications it would have on her time and strength and she currently had two litters. One with just two babies and one with six. She offered to donate them to the rescue knowing that I home check people and make sure they understand and know the breed. These puppies are NOT for breeding, but are to be placed into pet homes to be loved and cared for. This is a gift for us as a rescue as funds are always hard to come by and these puppies will help. This is also a gift for the adopter because the parents of these puppies have been health checked (hip certification, etc). These pups have Championships in their pedigree...they are not just "AKC" pups. They are exceptional. And so that is how these pups ended up in our rescue.
Back to the pups...PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MINE BY FILLING OUT AN APPLICATION IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE YOUR RESEARCH ON THIS BREED! Border Collies are not an "apartment" dog, or even a dog you can go to work 8-10 hours a day and leave alone. They are highly intelligent (many believe the most intelligent of all canines) and need companionship, direction and jobs. They are incredibly easy to train and are so much fun on road trips and hiking. Some have a natural instinct to herd, but I have found that if you entertain them early with good training, that can remain neutral. They need a lot of exercise, both physically and mentally. During bad weather, I would play "hide and seek" with my collies' favorite toys. Daily stimulation is very important to them.
These puppies are ready to find their forever home. We are asking for a donation of $1500 which includes all of their vetting (all puppy vaccinations, rabies, microchipping and spay or neuter which we recommend to be done between 6 and 9 months). All vetting will be done by one of our affiliates. Once proof of spay or neuter is received, you will receive the full pedigree papers and can register your pup with the AKC.
