Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dear Kind Human,
I see you looking at me through the cold, metal bars of my kennel. Actually, I have seen several of you multiple times. I know you see a scary dog but you don’t see my wagging tail and a hopeful face and you don't see the ache in my heart. I've been here for so long now, watching other dogs get picked, one by one, leaving me behind in this lonely cage. I know I have the staff members that love me very much. I have chosen two of them as my favorites even though I like them all. What’s not to like? They all show me love, kindness and spoil me rotten.
I remember the warmth of a home, the soft rug beneath my paws, the sound of laughter as I chased after a ball. I remember the gentle hand on my head, the love in someone's eyes when they looked at me. But now, all I have are the cold concrete floor, the echoing barks of other lost souls, and the constant longing for a family to call my own.
Every day, I wait by the door, hoping to see you come in, to hear my name called, to feel the comfort of a familiar embrace. But the days just blend together, each one a little bit emptier than the last.
I know there are so many other dogs here, but I'm just one little pup, hoping for a second chance. I can be your loyal companion, your furry shadow, your best friend. I promise to love you unconditionally, to greet you with a happy dance every time you come home, to be there for you through thick and thin.
Please, don't just walk by. Stop and look into my eyes. Can't you see the love and devotion waiting to be shared?
With a heavy heart,
Vera, A lonely dog at the shelter.
Vera has been in the Jeanette Hunt- Blair Animal Shelter since March 14, 2024. She is an 11 year old spayed female. She is good with cats and older children. She came to us at no fault of hers. Her owners were going through a very tough time and could not give her the life she deserved. Vera takes a bit to warm up to people (to be expected from her history) but once she does, she is amazing! PLEASE give Vera a chance. This girl deserves a chance, and we will fight for her till the end!
