Meet Canyon – Your Adventure Buddy!

Canyon is a strikingly handsome coonhound with velvety black and tan ears and a heart as big as his paws! This large and lovable guy embodies all the charm of his hound roots: a curious nose for adventure, a loyal spirit, and a sweet disposition.

Canyon is still settling in, so we’re learning more about his preferences. True to his hound instincts, he’s not a fan of cats and loves the thrill of the chase, so a feline-free home is a must. We haven’t yet tested him with other dogs, but his social, easygoing nature gives us high hopes.

At his core, Canyon is an affectionate companion who’s eager to bond with a family who appreciates his hound personality and active lifestyle. He’s ready to explore the world with you—whether it’s long hikes, backyard sniffing adventures, or lazy evenings by the fire.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fees for dogs includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, de-wormer, flea and tick prevention, heart worm prevention, heart worm tested, and microchip registration.

Adult Dogs: $200
Puppies: $225

Cat adoption fees include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, de-wormer, FIV/FeLV testing, flea and tick prevention, and microchip registration.

Adult Cats: $75 (or $125 for a pair)
Kittens: $90 (or $150 for a pair)

Since 1979, the Effingham County Humane Society has been committed to serving Effingham County, IL and the surrounding area. We are located in the former Funkhouser School, and our non-profit shelter is sustained by volunteers, fundraising, contributions, and adoption fees.

The goal of the Effingham County Humane Society is to reduce animal suffering in our county through educating and promoting responsible pet ownership, including spaying/neutering pets, appropriate pet identification, proper pet care, and the quality adoption of homeless pets.
